 In July 1862, 3 letters addressed to FOGO, Thos. were listed as awaiting collection at Castlemaine, Victoria.

Was John married before in Scotland?
John Fogo m Margaret Coutts 18 Nov 1858 Edinburgh Parish, Edinburgh, Midlothian, Scotland (familysearch). It appears Margaret died 1862 in Scotland.

So presumably (if this is the right John) he left Scotland after 1862, arrived NZ before 1868.

Rachel Mc Connell's parents were Henry Mc Connell and Rachel Pollock-- both Scottish born.

Rachel McConnell was a Wigtonshire girl born in Leswalt just outside Stranraer. Her parents according to the Scottish 1851 Census were Irish - both giving place of birth as County Down.

According to his 1917 burial record (reply #8), John had been in Otago for a period of 52 years. He may have arrived in New Zealand around 1865.
