Hi bugbear

It would seem that the other baptism of Mary Ann daughter of William & Jane may be a possible cousin. In the 1851 census 'your Mary Ann' has a brother Robert, his middle name was Gardiner, the same name carried by the other Mary Anns father William.

There is also a PCC Will of a George Robert Jackson of Woolpit dated 1856 that James Mathew his brother in law is executor and a beneficiary

EDIT: There are a few Jackson ( from Woolpit) Wills in the PCC collection, another dated 1825 of a George Jackson ~ bequests a sizeable estate to sons Robert and William. Fairly lengthy but may help with family names etc.

I think now I've found most of Mary Ann's story (although I'd like to firm up the baptism), I'll probably call this branch "done"

(see my first post to see just how distant Mary Ann is from me!)

Robert Jackson married Ann Baxter 13/12/1832 Woolpit.

As stated on 1851 census Mary Ann was born in Drinkstone but obviously prior to the marriage!!

Baptism Mary Ann Baxter bp.18/6/1826 Drinkstone, dau. of Ann Baxter.

Annette

I've trawled over many of the baptism of the children shown in the 1841 and 1851 census.

Many of them rather conveniently give the mothers maiden name as Baxter, which confirms everything nicely.

Hmm. "Darn"

The two census entries I have for Mary Ann Jackson both give a 1831 estimated DOB;

familysearch gives (as you say) the baptism of a Mary Ann Baxter in Drinkstone 1826, with only a mother (Ann Baxter) given.

But it also gives the baptism of a Mary Ann Baxter in Drinkstone 1831, daughter of Thomas & Ann Baxter.

Ah - OK, this appears to be Thomas Baxter and Ann Orridge (no, really!!), as evidenced by a marriage in Drinkston, and her maiden name is given in several other baptisms.

So the 1826 record stands.

Not sure if this helps or not

Burial record from St Mary Woolpit

Mary Ann Mathew buried 27 June 1866 aged 37 years.

so a YoB c1829 from this record.

Edit : have you seen the birth in that 2nd Qtr. 1866 Stow of a Mary Anne Mathew, wonder if she passed away during or after childbirth.
