Glen Easter
« on: Friday 12 August 16 12:13 BST (UK) »
My GG Grandfather James Dawson died on 20 July 1868 at Glen Easter, Parish of "Keltie", according to his death certificate. He is also described as a Farm Manager.
Can anyone tell me where this farm is located please?
Many thanks.

Hi

I'm not sure that it's Easter or Keltie. I think it says Parish of Falkirk.  Add - the entry is from the Parish of Falkirk pages.

Here's a clip.

Hi  Again

On the 1861, the family are living at Easter Glen, Flkirk.  There is a village of Glen to the south of Falkirk and to the west there is a Westerglen farm, so I assume that the farm was to the East of Glen.

I'll see if I can find an old map.

Here's a link to the map that I think it shoiuld be on but so far can't see it. Glen is clearly marked.

If you move around the map, you'll find various farmsteads and settlements.

I agree with Gadget.

Glen Farm
Parish of Falkirk

This is not as good as Gadget's map, but I thought it interesting to compare old and new:

There are loads of "Glens" in the area. I did wonder if it was too obvious that Glen Farm may be the buildings by "Glen" clearly marked on Gadget's map ...  :-\

I was hoping you'd come along, Ruskie. I'm on a little tablet and it was taking me ages to move around the old map!

I can't see an Easter Glen Gadget. (There seems to be "Everyotherglen"  :) ...)

Your theory makes sense and it seems logical that it would be to the East of Glen as Westerglen is to the West, and Midglen is in the middle.  :)

Here's the modern Glen Farm:

In the 1861, Easter Glen, where they were living, was between  Shields Hill Road and Bentend Road.

Hi Gadget & Ruskie,
I am reluctant to intervene at this stage when you guys are doing such "Stirling" work, other than to say thank you so far.
