We have "Shieldhill" here:
http://maps.nls.uk/geo/explore/sidebyside.cfm#zoom=16&lat=55.9752&lon=-3.7922&layers=176&right=BingHyb

(I don't know if it lies on Shieldhill Road or not) There is an "Easter Strip" - which does not seem to be associated with a house or farm, and just appears to be a strip of wooded land.

Bentend Road? I can't see this marked anywhere, though there is a "bendy" road between Shieldhill and Easter Strip.

I will look again as I doubt that I am on the right track.  :)

The modern Glen Farm is the old Midglen and Glen Farm Cottage seems to be the old Glenhall .... :-\

He died at Glen Farm (having had a detailed look at the entry that I posted, tis clearly that) but on the 1861 they were at Easter Glen.

In 1861, he was a ploughman, but his death cert in 1868 says he was a Farm Manager . They might well have moved from Easter Glen in the intervening years to Glen Farm.

Scotlands Places might shed some light (horse tax, etc.)  but it's probably in the subscription section and I don't have one.

Welcome to rootschat Walt. Thanks for your contribution to this thread.

What we are trying to work out is where a farm called Easterglen used to be.

The farm currently known as Glen Farm seems to have been called Midglen looking at several of the old maps. Is Midglen and Easterglen and Glen Farm all the same place?  :-\

By the way, your link doesn't work.  :)

Maybe Glenrig?

Skoosh.

A bit too far to the west, I think, Skoosh. If the current Glen Farm was Midglen, then Easter Glen must be further to the East - around Mavisbank, maybe.

just a thought - could it be 'bent' in its meaning of stiff or wiry or dead stalks of grass, or a place covered with such grass?
Never trust anything you find online (especially submitted trees and transcriptions on Ancestry, MyHeritage, FindMyPast and other commercial web sites) unless it's an image of an original document - and even then be wary because errors can and do occur.
