If you already have his service record why do you want someone to look for it ?

His record says exactly that.  Unsurprising that when he joined, unmarried, his nok was his father who he names when he joins up.  He then marries in Cork in 1908 and then, rightly, changes his nok to his wife Margaret because she now became his nok.  There may have been confusion only because there were two copies of his record, one of which didn't have the change on it originally.  This can be seen on the copy that has " vide dup" written on it near the wife's name.

thank you for your replies. i was wondering if i had the right person as . i have a benjamin henry whitehead and a joseph whitehead , brothers but have not come across a benjamin joseph . yet all the details point to it being the right family seems strange to name both benjamin . joseph was baptised just joseph. thats why i wanted confirmation of the army record.

It is more likely that it was his decision to call himself Benjamin Joseph when he joined up for some reason. He is just Joseph on the two census returns before he joined up.  The army record is quite clear, shouldn't bother speculating why he did it  :)
