I would point out that, just because I live on the Isle of Man, that doesn't make me an expert on motorbikes ::)

Me neither...lol... I just put 'early motor cycles' into Google images  ;D ;D

That's wonderful. The motorcycle was in west Cumbria at the time so makes sense with the plate. Thanks to all. Alan

I have seen photographs   of very similar motor cycles   being used by Army Despatch riders in WW1

The original posted pic and Handypandy's pic are one and the same photo. So if HP's is labeled with the date and model then the question is answered.

Good afternoon,

Thanks for clarifying that KG, I thought it was a link but i'm on my tablet. It only let's me cluck one word at a time not both so thought he had just changed font colour.

Triumphs do not appear to have had the fly wheel on the left. Douglas did not put a badge between the panels on the tank. The name "DOUGLAS" appears on the front panel or middle panel if 3.

Will have to walk up to Verralls and see Ian.
