He lived in Port Elizabeth.  South End I think it was specifically.
I know he was born in Pretoria, but after the war settled and married in PE.  I understand that he ever moved from PE before his passing,  however I cannot be sure.

Hi you can write to the Documentation Centre of the SA Defence force and ask for a record of service. I have had some good responses from them. it is also possible to go in and do your own research, or to hire someone to do it.

Thanks all for the help. I am starting to get somewhere.
I managed to come across his service card and discharge papers from family this weekend.  We also have his ID card from 1956 when SA was still a Union.
SA Home affiars does not have the ID on record, as the system changed in the 80's - 90's to a barcoded book, so we cannot get a birth cert from them, also on the national archives nothing comes up for him, however we do find his parents.

Does anyone know how/where we can run his ID for more birth details?

Thanks, I have tried.  says it is not a valid ID number.  It looks for the 13 digit number like we currently have.  The ID I am chasing has only 9 digits.

Totally clueless now... ???
