Was he a coal miner?

SB, who perhaps has a system of telling a person's age by his profession, may have an accurate answer?

Now that would be a handy talent to have.  ;D

The subject has an "old" neck and slightly arthritic (possibly) hands. I can't see any indication of a specific occupation though it may have been manual labour of some sort.

I agree about the hands & neck. The facial appearance would suggest he maybe short of some teeth as he appears to have a loose smile(for want of a better word)
