Hi hope someone can help me with my Moyes family line.
I have Richard Moyes married to Mary Jewell Craswell in 1818 at Northam Devon. Mary was baptised 1789 at St Mary's Portsea Hampshire. I have Onesinus Moyes and Martha Coller as Richards parents but they were married at St Mary the Virgin Dover in Kent in 1745 and Richard was baptised in 1755 at the same parish. There seems to be a generation missing because there is a 30 year age difference between Richard (1755) and Mary (1789). I know that Onesinus and Martha Moyes are heads of the family so I am wondering if Richard who married Mary Craswell was the son of Richard (1755). Hope someone can help.

The death/burial of Richard will tell you how old he was.

Where were the children born - have only found Thomas' baptism at Northam, Devon but you don't say where younger siblings were born, or where the family lived.

Hi thanks for your reply.
Alfred baptised at Northam also, but not sure about Louisa Mary possibly the same. Herbert, Edwin, Laura Jane were then all baptised at the Parish of Richmond Prince Edward Island. Richard was a Master Mariner so they seemed to travel around a lot.

You are missing 2 children of Onesimus and Martha, i.e.

Henry bp.5/10/1757 Dover
William bp.9/11/1760  "

Henry appears to marry an Ann Clark 7/9/1779 Dover and they had a number of children (all on familysearch) including: Richard b.13/1/1792, bp.5/2/1792 St. Mary the Virgin, Dover.

This is the only baptism for a Richard Moys circa 1792 so looks like your Richard was the son of Henry born 1757, son of Onesimus.

I've found some trees on Ancestry which are somewhat disappointing with regard to lack of detail/sources.   Nearly all have Richard with a death date of 4/9/1850 but where was this??

So you were indeed correct in that a generation was missing, albeit his father was a Henry not Richard.

Thanks so much that's great thought something didn't add up. I think it is likely Richard died Lancashire because they all seemed to end up back there. Thanks again for all your help. Lisa

Lisa did you see this when you posted the previous. Looks like your Richard stayed with Thomas bernard for a couple of years to build  a ship this size.

Capt Richard Moys of the brig Henrietta Whilhemina died 4 Sep 1850 at San Francisco, California, in his 60th year per the Liverpool Mercury newspaper of Friday 31 Jan 1851

Looks like Richard had quite a bad time arround Xmas 1845. His Brig must have been floated off without too much damage,if it was still sailing when he died.

Henrietta Wilhelmina  About 500tons ,Corruna 1st January 1846.
The wreck which was fallen in with on 23rd November,near C ape Finistere, and subsequently drifted landwards,near the Sisarga Islands,is the Henrietta Wilhelmina; She is timber laden ;and the wreck now lays upon rocks ,and in a very dangerous position.
