Patrick Butler b.1858 Calton, Glasgow.
« on: Saturday 20 August 16 16:59 BST (UK) »
I wonder if I could have some help to find Patrick Butler after 1891 please.
Patrick was born 7/2/1858 in Calton district of Glasgow.
His parents are Daniel Butler born 1821 Ireland and Margaret McCluskey b.1831 Ireland.
He is on the 1871 census at 19, Kirk Street, Calton with his parents and siblings.
he is on the 1881 census at 23, Kirk Street , Calton with mother and siblings.Occupation Broker.
His father Daniel died in 1880 and Patrick was the informant.
He is on the 1891 census still at 31, Kirk Street, this time his occupation was Clerk.
His mother Margaret died in 1919, her daughter Mary was the informant.
In the 1901 census his mother is still in Kirk Street with her 2 nephews Henry and John Wright but no sign of Patrick.

I can't seem to find him after 1891, so any help would be appreciated,

thank you

Sorry should mention I have found his brother Daniel b.1866 on the 1901 living at 179, Great Hamilton Street, Glasgow, which is a lodging house for men.
in 1911 Daniel is back at 31, Kirk Street with his 2 cousins Henry and John Wright but no sign of his mother.

Can you confirm you have checked Scotlands People for a marriage or death for him between 1891-1901?

Thank you CaroleW,

Yes I have looked at a couple of marriages according to his age and district but they are not him.
There is only 1 death in Greenock, for a Patrick butler the others are in Edinburgh and surrounding.
No deaths in the Glasgow area .
I just thought if he could be found on the 1901 census with his occupation as a Broker or a Clerk I could find which area he had moved to .If that makes sense.

Hi Skippy

Did you look at the 1899 marriage in Calton for a Patrick Butler?

Hello MonicaL,
Yes I looked at that marriage which was to a Mary Fitzpatrick and also the 1898 in Blythswood that was to Margaret O'Donnell but sadly not my Patrick.
The other marriages would have made him just too old I think.

Skippy, Patrick, clerk and unmarried still, died in 1899 at Kirk Street. His sister Mary reported his death but made an error on his age. She gave his age as 32.

He died from TB (phthisis pulmonalis) it seems...

Oh Monica thank you so much for this .
I was just about to get some free credits that Lisa mentioned from Scotlandspeople and use them to look for Patrick but no need now, I will use them for the other 101 ancestors that need to be found.

thank you once again.
