Captain Burnside
« on: Sunday 21 August 16 10:09 BST (UK) »
I am trying to track down a Captain Burnside who was in Cardiff 1891 (missed census) and Hastings 1901 (again missed census).  He was a strong chess player and may be identical to Captain Thomas Carson Burnside 1847-1931 born Tyrone who was in London on the 1901 census.  My Captain Burnside was in charge of the Moldava, a coal ship, which hit an iceberg mid Atlantic and sank, in 1896.  They were afloat for two weeks before being rescued.  Any further data which can confirm identity would be appreciated.  Particularly interested in his chess career.

Hare (Pembrokeshire and Glamorgan), Stanford (Glamorgan), Hodgson (Lincolnshire and Surrey), Sugden (Keighley and Worcestershire), Griffiths (Kidwelly and Glamorgan), Collins (Kidderminster), Evans (Cwmavon), Mainwaring (Llanedi and Cwmavon), Rees (Neath), Jones (Resolven), Paddison (Neath), Davies (Crynant), Bevan (Tonna).

If it is, this looks like the son's baptism.

The Plaque in 5miletown looks like a match for mother too..
