Robert Colley m. Ann c.1747
« on: Sunday 21 August 16 19:50 BST (UK) »
Hi all,
In connection with my 4xGt Grandfather Richard Colley b.1763 almost certainly in Stoke upon Tern and died 1856 Pensnett Staffs.

Robert Colley & Ann had I think the following children re. Familysearch:-
1748 Ann     b. Moreton Say
1752 Robert bur. Moreton Say
1753 Robert b. Moreton Say
1756 Margaret b. Stoke upon Tern
1758 Edward b. Stoke upon Tern
1769 John b. Cheswardine
I was informed by SFHS that parish registers of Stoke for around the 1760's were destroyed hence no record of Richard 1763

Can anyone please furnish any information on the parents Robert & Ann
regards,
robsdad

Hi
Could they have married over the border at Nantwich?
Robert Colley and Anne Dod by licence 29.4.48

There is also a Admin for Robert Colley at Stoke on Tern 10.4 1740 to brother Peter at Newport.
He seems to die 1761 leaving his estate to wife Mary and a bequest  grandchild Mary daughter of John .
They had married by licence 24.1.1732 Peter Colley of Ollerton? at Stoke Shropshire to Mary Jecker  age 36.(so not impossible second marriage).

The same family seem to have a connection with John Colley of Cheswardine Will 1781
daughter Margaret land now occupied by Peter Colley of Ollerton
son Richard £5 (looks like christened 29.5.1731 at Uffington),son in law Thomas Heaford, son John Colley and his present wife Jane. John senior's wife was Margaret.Married 4.5.1717 at Stoke on Tern to Margaret Menlove
Sorry can't give you the full details but Library about to shut.

Hi Ciderdrinker,
Many thanks for the information you kindly supplied.
Yes Robert's marriage to Ann Dodd in Nantwich 1748 looks promising as what looks like their first child Ann was bn. in that year in Moreton Say.
Also burial of Robert in 1785 in Cheswardine looks good as his last son John was bn. there ( unless it was Robert jnr. bn. 1753 Moreton Say ).
The wills I still have to get to grips with !
The term Admin ? Are you saying Robert was the Administrator of brother Peters will ? Also was your information source Shrewsbury archives ?
Thanks again for your time and trouble.
Regards

Hello
Sorry if I was a bit unclear .The Library was closing and I wanted to get as much in before it shut as possible.
For a start Peter is the administrator of his brother Robert's estate when Robert Colley died in 1740.
The Wills and Admins for Shropshire are general proven before the Bishop of Lichfield and come from the Archives at Lichfield.
I'm sorry to say I can't spot a baptism for either Robert Colley.

Hi,
Thanks for the explanation ( it's just me ).
I have some baptist burials at the Hurst of Colleys from Ollerton abt. 1711 - 1716 ( Samuel and wife Rebecca also an Ann ). Maybe a visit to Lichfield at some time in the future would be beneficial.
Regards and again many thanks
