Hi

It looks like the mother married in 1940 to Mr Steele. There would appear to be a child born in Newcastle from that marriage.  Then she had another child (half sibling to first) born before she was able to marry 2nd child's father. Then she marries child's father and goes back to registrars to inform them that she and child's father are now married in order to legitamise the birth.  The 1948 and 1949 birth index on Free BMD refer to each other.  The 1948 marriage in Newcastle of the parents refers to the mother having both her maiden name and previous married name.

If that makes sense!

Yes, that makes perfect sense. It's the 1948 marriage Newcastle you need Simon, not the 1945 one I suggested.

A bit confused still, I have ordered the marriage certificate 1940 and I am still awaiting it. So at least one of them is not related?

Got the certificate today and it looks like the marriage of 1940 is correct, the certificate is in poor quality though and the father is listed as either Joseph or John Johnson Steele, the age of the groom is correct and the fathers occupation is correct, as there is no John Johnson Steele, its likely just a slight error.

Ordered one of the birth certificates, so we will be able to tell which is the right child
