Magner Baptisms: Cork City, Enniskeane, & Macroom
« on: Sunday 21 August 16 22:03 BST (UK) »
Hi,
I was wondering if anyone could shed some light on a question I have about the different localities of baptism of the children of Denis Magner and Honora (Crowley). All of the following baptisms include the parents names (including Honora's maiden name, "CROWLEY").

John, bap. Feb 2, 1823 St Mary's, Cork City
Denis, bap. Apr, 1825 Enniskeane
Alicia bap. Mar 1827 Macroom
Honora bap. Sep 1829 Macroom
Ellen bap. Mar 1835 Macroom

Could it be that there was no priest/church available in Macroom in 1825-27, causing Denis and Honora to bring their first 2 sons to Cork City and Enniskeane respectively to have them baptized? Or is it more likely they moved to Macroom after having lived in or around Cork City, then Enniskeane.

Denis was a baker in Macroom. A series of articles in the Cork Examiner from 1842 illustrates his and other bakers' petition to Parliament for the abolition of night work, which required them to work 18 hour days, including Sundays. They were successful in their fight, and Denis, son John, and Denis Jr were all mentioned in the articles.

Any thoughts welcome.
Thanks!

Hi
This link

This is the page for the Enniskeane Baptism.
Macroom records are from 1780
As you say they must have moved from Cork City, to Enniskeane then to Macroom.

Thanks Maggsie,
I am having trouble finding the origins of Denis and Honora. They both died in Boston in the 1870s. Both were born 1800-1805. It appears they may not have been from Macroom, but possibly a nearby Parish.  A marriage registry is also an elusive find. Oh well, the search continues!
Thanks,
Steve
