Hi

When was she born?  Was she born as Molly or as a different christian name?

Did she die in WW1 or after?  If after - you need to give some idea of a timescale

Was she Mary Geraldine?  If so - there is an entry on www.cwgc.org.uk

EDIT - Ignore - she was Canadian

Molly McGinnis was 32 or 33 in 1916.  I know of her VAD service at Etaples and her citation for the MM award after 58 General Hospital was bombed in Oct 16.  I cannot find details of her birth date or death notices.  Sorry.

Hi, Mary Geraldine McGinnis was Canadian and died of an illness.

Molly is a "pet" name for Mary or Margaret but her medal citation was Molly.  I know she survived the war and celebrated Armistice Day, so assume she went back home to Northern Ireland, but do not know.

Sister Molly McGinnis

Just to clarify - was sister her nursing status or was she a nun?

If it was her nursing status - she may have married after 1916

She was a nursing sister with the Order of St John's, but do not know if that signifies a qualified nurse or not, or even if she was a nun.  I have not found a marriage certificate.  I have searched the burial records for nearby churches both Catholic and Protestant but not getting anywhere in Northern Ireland.  I don't know how to search hospital records in England.  Many VADs came via St Guys London also.

What is your interest in her - is she an ancestor?

Not an ancestor.  I am a volunteer researcher with the Mid Antrim Museums on a WW1 project and Molly would have lived just a few miles away from my home town of Limavady.  I have 2 x sisters who are nurses and am hoping to bring her war story as a VAD to a bigger prominence in our town history.
