windows 7 family tree prog
« on: Wednesday 24 August 16 12:35 BST (UK) »
I have a family tree prog that I have had since 1996, GSP,  in the first place I didn't want one but my husband bought it for me as a Christmas gift and boy what a good present it was,  I am now finding my computor will need to be updated , at the moment my main computer is at the comp hospital as I wasn't able to "wake  it up", it is the second time away this year with huge problems, the computor  is windows 7, I have been told that sooner or later windows 7 will be fazed out and I will need to upgrade to windows 10, not keen, this will affect my family tree prog as it isn't compatible with windows 10 I am told, I need to replace my FT prog, what will I do?, I am not in the least technical and am very worried I could lose all of my hard work over 20 years, The programme  GSP, I did upgrade this at one time and luckily I didn't transfer all of my family trees over, to be honest I didn't understand it

Any suggestions folks bearing in mind I am not technical

Louisa Maud

Hi, if you look here:

and go down to  thirtythirty's answer, I think you will find it the best solution to your problem, I had a similar one some time back, and this is how I worked it out.

If you need further help you can message me on here if it helps one-one.

Even if Microsoft stop supporting Windows 7, it will still work for years to come!

I'm another who hasn't upgraded to Windows 10, and doubt that I ever will?
My internet connection is through a PAYG MyFi dongle, and I am limited to 5GB of data, or 31 days usage, for my monthly £20.

Upgrading could cost me a lot of money! :(

My "tame" computer man (a professional) has advised me not to upgrade to Windows 10, and has even taken away the option to do so on my computer so I can't do it by mistake.  I do run Windows 7.
