There are lots of various methods.

One method is telephone directories.   Have they got a distinctive name?

Facebook is a good one- even if your friend themselves don't use it (and I have relatives in their 60s using it so you never know) if you are familiar with any family members you might be able to find them that way.

If you think they may be living in the same area you once knew them in, you could write a letter to a local newspaper. Even if they don't read it someone who knows them might pass the message on.

The Original poster could try sending a letter to the person,   and see whether it gets delivered or re-directed.

No male siblings or anything?

The Salvation Army has been known to help reunite people. I've never gone down that route but it might be worth asking.

FreeBMD (website) has free access to birth, marriage and death indexes (but you can't see more information than name, year (and quarter) and registration district). If you looked on there you could see how many people with her name got married within the most likely time period and that could narrow down your search.

Try looking for a marriage on Ancestry ( it's free this weekend). FreeBMD only goes up to about 1980, Ancestry's is much later.

Whoops, I forgot that! Most of my research is in the 17/1800s...
