Could you post the parents names to see if they can be found in the Census in Canada also
where Margaret Wilson was born ...There are a few records for a Margaret Wilson but they are later dates than 1900 ...

and why sail from / to New Brunswick and not Quebec?

Hi Ian,

You're welcome. :)

The port of Montreal closed during the winter months, and Atlantic ports like New Brunswick
were used instead.

If Margaret spent 20 years in Canada, you may be able to pick her up on the 1901 and 1911
Canadian census'. Or if you would like to share her parents names as rosie17 suggested, we
can have a look for her.
You can see those census' here, left side of the page, click on the year to search. Just a warning,
this site is oh so slow. :P

Margaret Cowan (nee Wilson):

Born 13 July 1890 to George and Margaret Wilson (nee Allan)

Place of Birth Howwood, Lochwinnoch

Father was dead at time of Margaret's Wedding to James Cowan (my grandfather) in 1912, however his occupation was listed as Joiner Journeyman.

Thanks to everyone for all their help.

Hi Ian,

Do you have DOB and POB for Margaret's parents? Did Margaret have siblings?

Cheers,

How sure are you that Margaret went to Canada before she was married as 1 match comes up on Scotlands People for a Margaret Wilson age range 19-21 in Lochwinnoch Renfrewshire in the 1911 census

Rosie - and others

Thanks for everything you are doing - above and beyond the call of duty and much appreciated by me and my sister.

Regarding length of time on Ontario, my sister found a record of deaths for York, Toronto; 3 columns per page - one death in each column. One line says Length of residence: at place of death / in Ontario / in Canada. The notation "20 years" has been written over the "in Ontario" words.
