William Albert Barnes b. 1886
« on: Monday 29 August 16 11:39 BST (UK) »
William was born in Peckham to William and Emily Barnes of Bow.  He married Olive Jupp from Littlehampton in  Wandsworth 1916.

He is on 1911 census in Littlehampton an Upholsterer, with his family.  The family are on 1901 census in Littlehampton his father's occupation Architect.  William is missing.  I believe he could have been at Christ's Hospital School in Sussex.

I felt sure I got that information from a post I made here, but  after spending a frustrating hour searching all my posts I found nothing.  I tried everything I could think of on 1901  census search - nothing.  I tried searching schools - same there.  I cant be dreaming this I am sure someone, somewhere gave me that information.   Apologies if I have posted but can I ask if anyone can find him at this school or tell me where to look please.  It's driving me nuts ::)

Possibly this one
1901
RG13; Piece: 267; Folio: 139; Page: 21
Christs Hospital
Newgate St LONDON

William Albert Barnes
Age:   15  (so birth about 1886)
Birth Place:   address   Not Known, England
Christchurch Newgate Street

In the last column are the words co not std   - which could be "Could not state" - maybe he wasn't sure where he was born when asked?

He must have been one of the last at the London school as "In 1902 all the boys from both the London and Hertford schools transferred to a new site in Horsham"

Contact the archivist at Christ's Hospital.  They may well have further details.

Records for Christ's Hospital up to 1911 are at London Metropolitan Archives, not at the school.
