No, don't assume that at all. But, keep an open mind about marriage and birth of children happening elsewhere. There was a fair bit of movement. I think its perhaps a good clue from Theresa Keene above. I would investigate. I know there were other Hurley's and Hay's in Bathurst at the time, and also on the Gaspe.

I went to Ireland last August and spent time in the Killorglin Parish, Kerry County.

Local people knew some old places (Hayes Cross etc) which today are just pastures in Laharn. I have a 1894 Map of the Town of Killorglin, now I'm looking for a document showing land owners in the area even earlier than 1894.

Any ideas?

you could look up Griffiths register about 1860.

http://www.askaboutireland.ie/griffith-valuation/index.xml?action=nameSearch
You can search by family name or by townland (on the Griffith's Places tab), spelling used can be a bit of a sticker sometime.
The map used on this site isn't correct for the Valuation so sometimes it doesn't quite match with the written record.
Use the slider on the top of the map to change to modern day than when you find the general area you want slide back to the old map.
