I'm looking for a Dearham Blacksmith 1829 called Hutchinson
« on: Friday 02 September 16 09:02 BST (UK) »
Hello
I'm researching a Hutchinson family from Camerton. Five members of the family were sentenced to 7 years penal servitude for stealing geese from Great Broughton. Only the son George was deported. The father died onboard a prison hulk, the mother stayed in Carlisle gaol until being pardoned, the 2 sisters served their time in Millbank Penitentiary. On their petition for clemency they say they have a brother who is a blacksmith in Dearham.
Does anyone know how I can find this man
Thanks

Morning Milliepede
The parents are William Hutchinson and Ann Irving, the 2 sisters are Jane b1804  and Mary b1806. Brother George b1805 was deported. There are 3 other siblings, Martha b1814, John b1818 and Michael b1820. I'm trying to find what happened to these 3 when the rest were sent to prison

In the newspaper article in 1823 about the court case, it mentions 3 small children in the house the oldest being 9, this ties in with Martha's year of birth, so I'm guessing the death in 1815 isn't her. But it's the brothers i'm looking for.

I saw the census showing Peter Hutchinson, but he was born 1791, our boys were 1818 and 1820. I did think perhaps this was an uncle

Its a possibility, but William was born in 1850 so there's a big gap in ages
