Hello - goodness, that's interesting! Peter Hutchinson (born 1791) was my great great great grandfather. He was a blacksmith in Dearham and married Mary Moses. Have you tried Cumberland roots.co.uk.Dearham/htm?Lots of good stuff on there.
By coincidence, my cousin, another Peter Hutchinson, went to Australia voluntarily and is still there. I'm still near Dearham.
Best wishes,
Gill

Hi Gill
Thanks for your reply.
I have lots of Hutchinsons in my tree, many are basket makers and travellers. As was William. I still haven't connected Williams family to my tree, nor your Peter. William had 3 sons, and it was either John or Michael who worked as a blacksmith at Dearham. They must have been related to your Peter.do you know of any John or Michael. I would love to know what info you have on Peter. My Hutchinsons were very intertwined with the Berry's also basket makers, the Knowles and Keenan's who were Potters. Do you know of any connection to these names in your family.

Hello David,
Unfortunately. I haven't come across any of the names you mention.
Peter was born in 1791 and the 1841 census has him listed as a blacksmith at Prospect, Dearham. He had three children, William, Jane and Peter. William married Jane Parkin, but was killed in a mining accident in 1845. Jane died either in childbirth or shortly afterwards, leaving their child, another William, to be brought up by his elderly Parkin grandparents. Jane is buried at Camerton.
Have never come across any basket makers etc - they all seemed to be miners after Peter's time. As you will know, there were lots of potteries in the Dearham area, so who knows?
Will let you know if I find out more.
Gill

Hi Gill
Many travelling families took more permanent jobs either in winter, or as the families settled down. The families I mentioned can all be found in Dearham at some time or other. Some took jobs down the mines there, some bought pottery from Ostles pottery and hawked them between Maryport and Cockermouth and even further.
So many coincidences in often lead to something. Even the Camerton burial ties things, why was she buried there and not Dearham ??
A bit more detective work I think
I'm on holiday in Ireland at the moment, back home Wednesday, I'll dig more then
PM me your e-mail address we can talk there when I get home
