Newpapers Obituary for Michigan 1930s
« on: Sunday 04 September 16 05:46 BST (UK) »
Hi

Is anyone able to suggest where I can find a death/obituary notices for Buchanan, Berrien, Michigan, USA

Hans H Hansen died 27 Feb 1938
Elizabeth (Lizzie) Hansen (nee O'Donnell) died 27 Mar 1933

Elizabeth and Hans married around 1894 in Chicago, Cook, Illinois, USA. They were still there in the 1900 census. Hans was a grocer. I cant find them in the 1910 census but they are in Michigan in the 1920 and 1930 censuses. Hans is a farmer in Michigan.

Both stated they emigrated around 1890/1891
Elizabeth as meant to have worked as a singer in Galveston, Texas but I have found no proof of this.

Both are buried in the Oak Ridge Cemetery, Buchanan, Berrien, Michigan, USA. I have their death certificates.

After Elizabeth died Hans remarried to Maude Eckelberger

What type of information were you hoping that the obituary notice would provide?

Links to other family. What their occupations were - especially Elizabeth. Aaprt from moving so her husband could establish a farm (my guess) why they moved from their other family in Galveston and Chicago.

Thank you the archivist contacted me today and sent me Elizabeths obituary. We now finally have her date of birth and place in Northern Ireland plus a foster child. The papers for Hans are still being scanned but should be available by Christmas

Hi Priscilla

Yes thank you I saw the Hansen plot with Hans and Elizabeths headstones plus the Hansen stone. I wasnt sure about Maudes as I was told her name was Eckelberger rather than Ellis. Ive been adding the links in to other family members

Priscilla - it is possible to shrink the find a grave links so that they don't exceed the page limits.  Feel sure you asked me how to do this years ago and I sent some instructions.  The Rootschat shrink tool is in the brown section at the bottom of every page.

Hope this helps
