The Battle of Dettingen 1743 Officers under the Earl of Stair
« on: Wednesday 07 September 16 07:37 BST (UK) »
My 6 x Grt Grandfather fought in The War of Succession 1740 to 1748..
 - A John McMorland B 1702 D 1783 - Passed down the family that he served under General Stair alongside Sir Andrew Agnew from lochnaw (Lieutenant Colonel)... Some info was listed in the book published 1898 - Regiments and armories of Massachusetts; an historical narration of the Massachusetts volunteer militia, with portraits and biographies of officers past and present - a descendant on reflection to his military career reflection on his ancestry military career made reference to the above...
My question to any military historian out there who is clued up (Cause I am not)  ??? Are there any archives that may exist that could list a record or reflect any soldier / officer of this period and regiment ? National Archives ?
Would be grateful for any leads on this ..
Thank you readers

Regards
Scott Morland

I believe the first Army List (of officers) starts about 1760. But you could try the London Gazette Archive. It's online. There may be General's dispatches about the campaign that will list some officers. Also, if you know the regiments present - they should be listed under the Colonel's name - you can look for their commissions in regiments present.

This lists the British regiments that fought in the Pragmatic Army at Dettingen.

Sir Andrew Agnew 5th Baronet commanded the 21st (Royal North British Fusilier) Regiment of Foot.  https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Sir_Andrew_Agnew,_5th_Baronet

May help narrow the search.

It is with great difficulty I share with you that in the early hours of 07 August 2021, Maximilian passed away unexpectedly but peacefully.

Further

While you may not find your man in them the two books here should be of interest  https://archive.org/search.php?query=north%20british%20fusiliers
