I was looking at that death earlier when I was looking for a marriage, and had also discounted it as he was a widower but it wasn't a family member who gave the information so it could still be possible.

Did this couple have any children?

Looks like his shop was 27 Barronstrand St.

Hi Sinann,

In the 1911 census for Elizabeth Audley it states that she had had 10 children and in 1911 6 of them were still alive.
I think I had possibly found 5 of them and you have found a sixth

I have John (John Lindsay Audley) born 1867, that you have also found (No reference to him after that)
David Audley born 1868 that you also found (I believe he died in New York in 1914)
The William Audley you found born in 1870 is new to me.
The Francis Peter Audley born 1874 that you also found ( I believe he died i 1875 but I seem to have found two references in the death registrations one in Q1 1875  vol 4 page 720 and one in Q2 1875 col 9 page 664
From Ancestry I have seen the death of a John Lindsay Audley in 1866 aged 0 ( I am assuming that after this child died the next child was given the same name (see above)
There is also a James Audley who married Catherine Cummins in Waterford in 1893- This James gives his fathers name as Henry a merchant. ( Incidently the death certificate of Henry Audley in 1897 gives his occupation as merchant

Assuming that the 1911 census is correct we have found 6 of the 10 children.

The letter I referred to that was written in 1930 was a letter written from Australia in which the writter was attempting to list his aunts, uncles and cousins. In his letter he says that Heney Audley has sons and daughters all we have found so far is sons.

I'm going to edit my earlier post to try and keep the children straight.

Hi Ballydw,
Thanks for the two links
the www.lennonwylie.co.uk/1894WaterfordDirectory  shows a Mrs Audley in Lower Newtown Waterford described as Furnished Lodgings gives me a problem as it suggests that Mrs Audley was widowed by 1894 and indicating that the death in 1897 of Henry Audley was not her husband

This is a possibility from the Births section of a Waterford newspaper of 22 June 1864: At Thomas-street, the wife of Mr. Henry Audley, of a daughter.  And this from the Births section of a Cork newspaper of 7 June 1865: At Thomas-street, Waterford, the wife of Mr. Henry Audley, of a son.

Then from a Waterford newspaper of 9 November 1866, covering a court meeting to consider revisions to the Burgess Roll, a brief mention to say that Henry Audley's name had been objected to for premises in Thomas-street, but that he had left those premises anyway.

Forward a couple of years and a Waterford newspaper of 20 April 1869 covered the auction of a house on Barronstrand-street and reported that Mr Henry Audley bought it for £95 with 16 years of the lease unexpired. On Friday 21 May 1869 the same newspaper announced, under the banner OIL AND COLOUR, &c., WAREHOUSE, 27 BARRONSTRAND STREET, that Mr Henry Audley had commenced business.

And finally, this from the Births section of a Cork newspaper of 9 December 1869: AUDLEY - At Barronstrand-street, Waterford, the wife of Mr. Henry Audley, of a son.

Her husband may have been ill for some years before he died.

gaffy, can you see how long the ad runs for the business?
A son could have taken it over of course but it might help put a time frame on Henry's working life.
