James Clark Birth 14 MAY 1809 Petty,Inverness,Scotland
« on: Friday 09 September 16 22:13 BST (UK) »
Looking for an info on James Clark Birth 14 MAY 1809 Petty,Inverness,Scotland

He is the son of

Donald Clark (Schoolmaster in Petty)

1785–1853

Jane Campbell

1789–1869

I know he was baptized 18 May 1809 in Petty but then he seems to be gone.  Nothing in 1841 census. Nothing on FreeCEN.

Others in the family came to Canada as early as 1833 so he may have headed here.   There are several entries for arrivals with the name James Clark and approximate birth year but nothing definitive.

Thanks

Do you have any proof that he survived infancy?

Nothing to indicate he survived infancy.  No death record so far but wondered if he perished as an infant

The 1841 Census has at least one James Clark.  One listed as a contractor in Kingussie & Insh -Inverness-shire with a spouse Mary.  Will have to dig into that possible lead.  Would Kingussie  be a long way for someone to move in 1840-1850 era?

So far no sign of a death that looks close at Scotland's People.  One child of 6 but birth year way off. One adult 82 but again birth year way off.  Looking in Canada but nothing conclusive.  Ships records have several James Clarks but details are lacking.  Simply a name and arrival year.  Possibly access to the microfilms would help.  Not sure how accessible those films are.  Trip to research room at local library needed

Found a possible death record in 1817 but hard to decipher writing.   Appears to be  James Clark but the rest of line is hard to make out  Death is in Petty but...

The word in brackets is Adjutant then son to C C ??Lag??.  The 43 may be an age at death but I think the Adjutant would suggest it was an adult death

I have found a James Clark born in Scotland with same birth year in the 1851 Canada census.  He is a farmer in Gloucester, Carleton County, Ontario.  Near Ottawa Ontario.

He has a wife Agnes born Scotland about 1808 and there are five children all born in Canada.  I have been unable to find a marriage in Canada. Have yet to find a marriage of a James Clark to and Agnes ? in Scotland.

The family does not seem to be in the same spot in 1861 or 1871.  However, there seems to be a number of James Clarks born around the same year 1808-11 in various census documents but images are missing in the database so unable to see the household.

I found a burial for a James Clark in Michigan.  Lists a spouse Elizabeth Allardyce 1809–1875

I also find a marriage 14 Jun 1836 Rhynie and Essie, Aberdeen, Scotland.  Would the marriage in Aberdeen be unusual given we know James was from Petty, Inverness?

We know a brother Thomas was in Michigan but further north and after the death of the James Clark in the cemetery records.

There does not seem to be a death record that might confirm parents.
