I have a book with a photograph of Wedmore, from about that time, and there is a similar line of bunting across the road with Wedmore Brass Band. There was a New Inn in Panborough.

There appears to be a New Inn at Wedmore too:

(it does not appear to be the same as the one in the OP's photo)

Have put two mag glasses over it and cannot be sure what it reads. Yes it looks similar to Richards but it could be Perkins! it's just too far away. Is there anything on one of the photo editing sites which could enhance?

I'm wondering what it is behind the trombone player - looks to me like some kind of framework with words made out of leaves, but I can't make out what they are.

I'd agree with Scouseboy on it possibly being May Day - bunting etc, trees not in full leaf.

But I'm not sure whether the band uniforms will help much - look at these pictures of the bands from Burtle and Watchet:

Not sure about May Day - possibly a Guy Fawkes Carnival procession?
(These Carnivals are very big in Somerset!)

Can anyone read what is on the collection box, that the girl in front is holding?

I'm not getting an autumn feel from it. I know I mentioned trees not in full leaf (the big ones behind), but the nearer trees have quite a lot on them - more than I'd expect for autumn. And the shadows look fairly dark, short and summery.

Good evening,

Iv'e checked and discounted the following, Wambrook, Faulkland, Roadwater, Dunster, Chiselborough, Priddy, plus a couple not on the list from 001uk.

Then I came across this site; https://www.flickr.com/photos/14230388@N03/albums/page2

Iv'e checked out Somerset but he doesn't have your photo but there are lots of other counties if someone else wants to have a look as well.

Now you may think I'm seeing things - and perhaps I am - but is that some sort of a carnival float behind the middle bandsmen?  I can see a cross on it and what seems to be a man leaning out of the top of it????

I agree that there appears to be some kind of float behind the band.  Also that there is what looks like a union jack on the left, and a swag of flags/bunting over the road.  As for the pub sign, I assume I am completely wrong (as I usually am) but I thought the word at the bottom was Pilchards!   ;D
