the record on Familysearch in Llysworney is of Banns, marriage was in 8 Jun 1829 St Brides Major as transcribed on FreeReg. It's from before civil registration, so a parish entry & is very unlikely to give names of their fathers.
Llysworney baptisms are on FreeReg, but can't see one for David, although there is a possible James family baptising children in the parish
Mary James bp 21 Mar 1802 dau of Richard & Mary
John James bp 14 Aug 1803 son of Richard & Mary
and likely marriage - Richard James & Mary David 23 May 1795 so space for more children earlier. There's a possible daughter Ann James bp 11 Oct 1795 dau of Richard & Mary in Penllyn.
It could be that Llysworney is the first place that David could remember living & didn't know he had been born/baptised in a different parish.
Possible burial in Llysworney of Richard James aged 55 on 26 Aug 1824.
