Lancs BMD should show if she was married before, and then you might be able to check up on possible children on the site, using her mainden name.

Added  - not showing. Coverage http://www.lancashirebmd.org.uk/marrcov.php

Lancashire BMD won't help as this marriage was in Cheshire ;D Cheshire BMD has:

Surname   Forename(s)   Surname   Forename(s)    Church / Register Office   Registers At   Reference
FOXTON   Arthur Dixon   EDWARDS   Marjorie   Stockport Civil Marriage or Registrar Attended   Stockport   STR/149/72

Registry office presumably as Arthur was divorced.

The marriage certificate would indicate whether Marjorie had been married previously.  Registration of children would indicate the mother's surname as her ORIGINAL maiden name.

Oops - didn't see it in Stockport  :-[

Usually there's an asterisk on the local BMD listings if there is another surname on the marriage cert.

As it was probably a Register Office marriage, then there is no alternative!

If you are using FreeBMD, then click on the page number to see all the names for that volume/page!

If you're not using FreeBMD - then you should be! ;D

However FreeBMD gives, confusingly
Marriages Dec 1945
Foxton    Doris I       Milligan       Manchester    8d   574
MILLIGAN    Doris I       Foxton    Manchester    8d   574
MILLIGAN    Doris I       Pinches    Manchester    8d   574
Pinches    Doris I       Milligan       Manchester    8d   574

Stan

NO - GRO gives the confusing information.  FreeBMD is merely a transcription of the GRO Indices.

I was answering the comment by KGarrad.  Of course it goes without saying that FreeBMD is from the GRO Records, and I did not think it worth mentioning.
