So why were there so many Abby/Abbie/Abigails in the Wester Ross area in early part of the 19th century?

I don't think that many came from Ireland at that time. To my knowledge of 30 odd years of the area, the population were staunch Presbyterian or Wee Free.

A bit about the origins here:

Maybe Abigail was given that name by her parents in deference to the Laird.

THOMAS MACKENZIE, fifth of Ord. He was educated at Fortrose,
and married Ann, youngest daughter of Sir Kenneth Mackenzie.
Their third child was Abigail, who married George Mackenzie, IV. of Dundonnel, with
issue.

Hello all,

It's been a while since I first asked for help with Donald and Abby MacKenzie my great great great grandparents.

I have been working away here in New Zealand and with family help I have managed to find out some more information:

Donald MacKenzie was the son of Kenneth MacKenzie and was born in about 1779.
He married Abigail MacKenzie, born about 1781, the daughter of William and Margaret MacKenzie on 9 December 1812 in Badluarach.

Donald and Abby had the following children:
Kenneth 1816 who married a Janet Fraser - he was a fisherman/crofter
Henrietta 1818 who married a Donald MacKenzie
Anable 1820
Mary 1821
Janet 1823
Margaret 1824
Donald 15 Feb 1825 who married Catherine MacKay and migrated to New Zealand - my Gt Gt Grandfather.
John 1826
William 1829? - he was a fisherman/labourer
Betty 1830

Donald was dead by 1851 and Abigail/Abby died on 25 June 1866 in Tarradale, R&C, Scotland.

Would anyone be able to help me as where Donald and Abigail could be buried.  I have no idea if they would be buried together or in different locations.  Donald who came to NZ son Donald was born at Hughston, Tarradale.  I was told that Hughston is/was a farm.

Anyway I would be super grateful if someone could help me.

Also hope you all are doing OK with the COVID-19 situation.

Many thanks,
Vanessa

Well I have spent some time looking at the suggested website - and it is brilliant but I still can not find them.

I looked on Scotlands People and did find Abigail's death registration. She was listed as "Abigale" MacKenzie.  Abigail did die on 25 June 1866 at Hewstone, Tarradale, in the Parish of Urray.  I know that her son Donald was born at Hewstone, Tarradale.  Abigail's son Kenneth was present at her death.  Graeme MacKenzie from Inverness told me that Hewstone would have been Hughston a farm that is near a quarry.

I am getting closer I think.  Thanks for all the tips and suggestions.  :D

Never trust anything you find online (especially submitted trees and transcriptions on Ancestry, MyHeritage, FindMyPast and other commercial web sites) unless it's an image of an original document - and even then be wary because errors can and do occur.
