« on: Thursday 15 September 16 02:53 BST (UK) »
Trying to clarify some details on various trees.
Harriet Elizabeth SARTAIN is believed to have been born in Landsdown area of Bath , parents John SARTAIN and wife Elizabeth nee KANE, previously married 27-8-1837, so must be amongst the first  certified entries.
4 children known, details from the 1841 & 1851 census.
Mary Ann b 1838.
Ellen b 1839.
Jane b 1845.
Harriet b 1846.
Does any available on line resource have Harriet's bapt/birth to confirm
Parents John (cabinet maker )and Elizabeth.

BathBMD.org.uk has this:

Births, 1846
Sartain, Harriet     Mother's Maiden Name: Kane   Sub-district: Lansdown

Marriages, 1837
Sartain, John  to Kane, Elizabeth
at Bath, St Swithin's, Walcot (Paragon)

The births for Mary Ann (1838), Ellen (1840), Elizabeth (1843), Elizabeth Jane (1844) all show Mother's Maiden Name as Keene.

The first Elizabeth dies in the same year.

This is odd:

Thank you for every ones help on this, I hadn't though about trying the mothers nee name, as it was sometime after the marriage, I guess it's worth getting the recorded checked for transcription error, it is possible CANE is her third forename.

To expand on this research, I know another Harriet Elizabeth married an Arthur FERRETT in Malmsbury Reg dist  Wiltshire at Charlton , St John in 1865. But I can' t find any online access to those records, apart from the Wiltsbmd site.
This would hopefully assist in confirming the Harriet from that marriage as likely being the daughter of tailor Thomas SARTAIN.
An entry from 1841 has a Harriet Elizabeth bapt 17-1-1841 to Thomas (tailor)and Harriet in Weston, this ties up accurately with the 1911 census detail for Harriet's birth place.

I have microfiche copies of the register. The FreeREG transcription is accurate. CANE is clearly the surname. (The child is just Harriet, not Harriet Elizabeth.)
