What birth certificate?
« on: Friday 16 September 16 11:20 BST (UK) »
Hi, I'm new to this site and family trees in general.

I know my Great Grandfather Thomas Marchant Price married to Dilys Alice Lewis 11 Nov 1939 in Oxfordshire, he died 11 Aug 1987 in mid glamorgan.

He was born 13 August 1912 but I'm not sure where, although he did go to school in cardiff. I'm trying to find his parents and know I should buy his birth certificate but don't know what birth certificate to buy as the dates are in quarters and without a birthplace I can't narrow it down.

Any advice please? I'd be so grateful.
Thank you

Hi Claire and welcome to Rootschat.

Do you have his mariage cert,it should name his father on it.
Once we have his name we can probably find who his wife was ,and then their marriage.
You are lucky that he was born in 1912 ( and August birth should show in the Sept 1/4).
As we can then pinpoint the right birth by the correct mother's maiden name.

I coud hazard a guess at this one- what does anyone else think?

Thank you both for the replies.

I don't have a marriage certificate, I know the date from my nan.
Where can I order birth/ marriage certificates?

Thank you
Claire

Hi Claire

http://www.gro.gov.uk/gro/content/

In the last census the above couple have a firstborn called Willie, does this ring any bells with your nan.  Does she know anything about your g grandad family?

Order them from here http://www.gro.gov.uk/gro/content/certificates/

They will cost no more than £9-25 and for that price they will post them anywhere in the world.

When you complete the first page and say Yes the ref number is known, you then only have to complete the boxes with stars against them on the 2nd page.

If your nan is still alive and knows the date, does she know her mum and dad's names?

I cant believe how quick you guys are, I've been searching for a marriage between Handley and Price for weeks.

My nan has given me so much valuable information on her maternal side but she doesn't know anything about her fathers family due to a family fued.
We know Thomas had brothers because they disowned their father after he lost their home to lodgers during the war.

I've just ordered the birth certificate you've suggested.

Thank you all so much
