Frederick Rudd
« on: Friday 16 September 16 17:45 BST (UK) »
I am looking to see if anybody can help me with finding out when Frederick Rudd died.

He was born in Grimston, Norfolk on 13 May 1874 and emigrated to Cape Town in 1898 becoming a commercial traveller making regular trips back to the UK.  There in 1904 he married Grace Susanna Brown and divorced in 1925.  He then married a Frances Mary Finlay in Durban in July 1927.

He was alive in 1939 in London, but died between then and 1950 in either Cape Town or Durban.

Any help would be much appreciated.

Thanks

Grace was his first wife whom he married in England and divorced in Cape Town, before marrying Frances Finlay in Durban. Have not been able to find any death records in England so assume he died in S. Africa.

Hi I am Frederick Rudds remaining niece. My father was his brother Riley born26/1/1870
My uncle Fred came to live with us on his return from South Africa about 1950 then moved to London. When he took Ill my sister Dorothy took him to live with her family in Bures Suffolk he died In Sudbury hospital. My father was 65 when I was born . Will be interested to hear more about my Uncle he was a gentleman  and I loved him as did all my family.
Not sure of the year he died. Do know that Amber Rudd the MP is a descendant of his her father was named Riley but didn't like it so changed it to Tony I believe.nb Uncle Fred was her fathers  father born to a South African Lady.
Be interested to hear anything else about him.
Regards
Betty Stancer nee Rudd

Hi Betty,

We have corresponded before (I'm Martin Harrop)and you bought my book about Fred's wife Grace.  Unfortunately I have no more information than that which was in the book.  I can confirm that Fred died 16/12/1957.

You are correct in saying that Fred was the father of Amber Rudd's father Tony.

Regards
