Yes, I'm sure he would have worked at Tuckingmill or the Bickfords Fuse works. His father worked at the South Crofty mine which is visible in one of the photographs that was linked to.

What is the 1939 register? My search only turns up the 1911 census.

you can access the 1939 register on FindMyPast. We can't look up for you because of copyright. It was the sort of census taken at the start of the Second World War

"In December 1938 it was announced in the House of Commons that in the event of war, a National Register would be taken that listed the personal details of every civilian in Great Britain and Northern Ireland. This Register was to be a critical tool in coordinating the war effort at home. It would be used to issue identity cards, organise rationing and more".

If you can find him, you'll be able to see if he is married.
