Hutin mystery
« on: Sunday 18 September 16 19:18 BST (UK) »
Hi - I am looking for some help locating James Hutin & Jane Leslie. They were married April 5th, 1893 in South Shields, Durham. They had a daughter, Thomasina Hutin on 29th March 1896 in Glasgow.

However, I cannot find any of the family in 1901 or 1911, nor can I find James Hutin or Jane Leslie prior to 1893.

When Thomasina marries in 1927, she is given as Thomasina Le Hutin. She dies in 1989 aged 93.

If anyone can help me locate the family in any census returns i would really appreciate it.

Thank you :)

K

Hi
Do you know James' occupation?
There is a piece in the Dundee Courier 4 Aug 1899 about a James Hutin , travelling showman being charged with stealing a dog, his wife was mentioned as Ella Leslie Hutin.
Exeter & Plymouth newspaper 1898 mentions a travelling showman James Hutin of Newport, Monmouthshire.
Can t find him in the censuses though.

James Hutin mentioned by cath151:

1901 Census(Fair Ground) (Living in Caravan), Queens Road, Manchester, Lancashire, England

James Hutin born 1874 Newport Monmouthshire Illusionist (Show Proprietor)     Monmouthshire,
Ida Hutin, wife, born 1875, Scotland    Sharpshot In Travelling Show
Ida Hutin, daughter born 1895, Manchester, Lancashire, England

RG13/375/161/38

Search for the same family in Salford on 1911 Census.

Hi K

I think you are looking for an ancestor of mine. James Leonard Hutin is my 2nd great-grandfather. Do you have Ancestry? If so, you could take a look at my tree that I have started to find out all of the information regarding him and his wife - Janet Murray Leslie (although throughout census' she is referred to by different names - Ida being one of them!)

Let me know if I can help at all.

Thanks
Liv.

Hi, Liv

My interest in the Hutins is as the descendants of Sarah PAYNE born sometime between 1768 & 1774 ( as she was of age when her father wrote his will in 1795) but baptised Rodden 17 Nov 1780, who married John Hutin 3 Nov 1796 at Salisbury

How confident are you that the multiple names ARE the same woman? i.e.  Ida etc

Jo

Hi Jo

We have only just begun our family tree so we haven't got back as far as 1768 yet.

I do know however that Janet Murray Leslie is referred as Ida/Ina/Jane and Janet in the different censuses. I know this from a living relative who confirmed it. They were in the traveling show business so often had 'show names'.

Hope this help.
