Duncan Walker 1895 to ????
« on: Sunday 18 September 16 21:48 BST (UK) »
Looking for information about Duncan Walker who was born at Avondale Place, Kerr Street, Kirkintilloch on 29 May 1895.  His parents are Archibald Walker and Susan Tuck McLaren.  I know he was alive in 1915 when he was mentioned in the Will of his aunt, Mary Walker.  Any information would be very welcome. isk

Hi isk,

Do you have access to the Scottish census?  Duncan, his parents and grandparents come up fairly easily in 1901:

Catherine Walker 52 wife
John C Walker 30 son, manufacturing chemist, born Glasgow
Archibald Walker 34 son, spirit dealer, born Glasgow
Susan T Walker 35 D/Law born Glasgow
Duncan Walker 5 G/Son born Kirkintilloch
James M Walker 1 G/Son born Kirkintilloch
Mary A Sally 25 Servant, born Kilsyth, Stirling

Added: James M Walker, born 1900, died in Canada

added Added;  Looks like both brothers went to Canada 1919 -1924 although I can't open up the An*ry records to check

Hi Br1gau.  Yes I have all the census records for the family.  I wondered, when I found that his brother, James, had gone to Canada, if Duncan might also have emigrated.  Don't have A..... at home but will have a look when I am at the Mitchell Library, later in the week.  Many thanks for your interest.  isk

The Duncan Walker, born mid 1890s, who shows up in the shipping manifests looks to be in the main the same Duncan. He made lots of trips back and forth from the early 1920s. He was from Kilmacolm, Renfrewshire and also had a brother James settled there. His father is given as a William with a farm address in Kilmacolm.

There is one Duncan Walker, a 27 yr old clerk travelling to Adelaide, Australia in 1923. He gives his UK address as Craigard, Kirkintilloch. No further details unfortunately.

Monica, the man I'm looking for is the second one you mention whose home address is Craigard, Kirkintilloch.  I shall certainly follow this up.  It will help that my sister lives in Adelaide and can do a bit of sleuthing there.  Very, very many thanks for your interest and help. isk.

The Sydney Morning Herald, 19th March 1953 has the following notices:

"Walker Duncan March 17th 1953, beloved husband of Annie Walker of Drummoyne, dear father of Duncan Archibald, aged 57 years".  Age is spot on, and Archibald...?

"Walker.  The funeral of the late Duncan Walker will leave St James Church King St Sydney this Thursday after services commencing at 1.30pm for Northern Suburbs Crematorium".  Pity, no stone but may be a plaque.

Thank you all for your interest.  J11, sounds like my Duncan, as his father's name was Archibald which he has included as his own son's middle name.  Br1gau, yes knew about the third son.  These men were cousins of my late father-in-law but. thanks to a rift in the family, I am fairly sure he knew nothing about them.  Thanks again I really appreciate your help.  isk
