Butcher Bible
« on: Tuesday 20 September 16 16:54 BST (UK) »
Hi

In 1971 my cousin Bernard Pead visited the Butcher family in Lowestoft and viewed their family bible which had details of both the Butcher and Pead families. There were the descendants of George Butcher ( Born 1864, died 1936 ) and his wife Rose Pead (born 1864, died 1943 ). I am trying to locate this bible as I would very much like to get photos of all the entries as Bernard only photographed excerpts in 1971. If anyone can help I would be very grateful.

Many thanks
John Pead

A long shot but you could try emailing a letter to the local newspaper;  there might still be family in the area or people who are in contact with them.

Good Luck!

Thanks Jan, I have emailed a Lowestoft paper but they do say that they have limited space so there is no guarantee the article and request will get in. This forum has always been wonderful when I have a problem so I thought I would give it a go here.

Is there a local radio station who might broadcast an appeal for you?

In my area there is a weekly free magazine which often carries similar items;  might be worth looking for one in the Lowestoft area.

Some years ago my dad sent a letter to a local paper in Wales looking for people who might remember his cousin from an address 60 years earlier........it worked and for the last few years of his life he was back in touch with the family.

Thank you so much Jan and Yokel,

I have emailed the radio station that you (Yokel) suggested so we will see what happens.

Try Lesley Dolphin at BBC Radio Suffolk. Lesley has always supported SFHS and SLHC, I have been on her programme over the years supporting both  ;)

She features a different parish every day and discusses history of the place and people etc. so this is very much in keeping with the programme.

The radio station broadcasts on various frequencies so that it covers the county, but also available now on digital (I listen in via the TV).
