Hello,
I have just come back from the Library today (where it is free to view "Find My Past" Records), and I have had a look at the above persons WW1 Service Record on there.
Edward Wheatcroft was a half brother of one of my Great Grandfathers. He was born in Lincoln in 1895. Edward became a Tram Driver. He attested at Lincoln on the 11th of December 1915. On his Service Form I believe it says he was part of The 4th South Staffordshire Regiment, at one point, and the 3rd Lincolnshire Regiment. The records on find my past say "burnt documents". However there seems to be a lot that is still easily readable on the original images.
Anyway, during his service, it seems that Edward had three offences in his time. These are noted in his record. However, it seems quite hard to read the writing on the service record. I know that the middle one says: "Not obeying orders". Could anyone please have a look for me and see what the other two say?
I would be very grateful.
Also, it seems that Edward was discharged because he was not fit for service. On the pension allowance part of his service record, it gives the reason (I think) for his discharge. But I can't seem to decipher what that says also however. There are also lots of codes and numbers on that same page, which I also do not understand. These seem to relate to the benefit that he would have received/ reasons for his benefit. So I would also be grateful if somebody could please tell me what these mean please.
There is also a hand written note in the service records, dated 1917 stating something like: "Mr. Wheatcroft attended an inquest today, in which he ran a man down"
Once again, I would be very grateful if somebody could possibly explain the above points to me.
Thank you very much.
