Finding where my great great great grandmother died. Buffalo?
« on: Wednesday 21 September 16 01:29 BST (UK) »
Trying to find when my great great great Grandmother Mary Ann Murphy died.
I believe it is possible she would have died in either Port Dalhousie Canada, or Buffalo, NY. If in Buffalo I believe it is possible she would have lived to at least 1892, but likely passed before 1900.

Here is everything I have about her.

You will notice her daughter Margaret is not in the 1881 census. She became Emma(her middle name) Green by 1880.

Julia Ann Murphy(second youngest of her siblings) married a Rasmussen in Chicago the 24th of January 1903 (This makes the 1892 census record a possible match with "Miss J Murphy"

Frank J Murphy(the youngest of his siblings) shown as an engineer(in 1892 census) was also an engineer in future us census records or City of Buffalo Bureau Engineer
There is a woman Mary Murphy shown(1892 census) who is 19 who might be his wife and A.B. Murphy might be their son Arthur as Frank J Murphy's death notice indicates a late Arthur Murphy who never showed up in any other census records, perhaps he died very young, before 1900.
When looking at the 1900 census Frank J Murphy and his wife Mary have 4 children 3 still living.

So I suppose the mother Mary could very well have made it to 1892.
The only problem is with Murphy being such a common surname and Mary such a common first name together working against me.

The 1889 Buffalo city directory has the following:
Murphy, Frank, fireman, 403 Fulton
Murphy, Julia, w. Hatch & Jenks, boards 403 Fulton

Could just be coincidence, but I thought it was interesting.  There are a number of Mary Murphys, but none at that address.  No Arthur Murphy in there.

Arthur wouldn't have been born yet. That is no issue. My great great grandfather Dennis Murphy's oldest son Frank was a fireman at some point. He, Frank was born in August of 1883.

I know Dennis built sewers around western New York and Toronto. I also know he owned a roofing company at some point likely before 1910

Yes that is her. My point is that she wasn't married until 1903 so she could be Miss J Murphy in the 1892 nys census.

I am trying to find out when my great great great grandmother Mary died and where she is buried

Yes, I understand what you're looking for.  You didn't seem to know the name of the man she married, and sometimes every little hint helps.

That is true. Thank you :)
I also know Mary Ann the daughter married a Theodore Flanders. Julia and Mary live together in Chicago in the 1900 census if I remember correctly

Hi,

If you are still looking for this information, I may be able to help; but could you clarify for me, on the 1861 census, what line number your Mary is?
