James Hack
« on: Thursday 22 September 16 12:46 BST (UK) »
I am looking for the forebears of James Hack born 1751 in Walton-in-Gordano
I believe his father was John Hack but can't get any further.

James married Betty Blackmore in 1777 at St.Paul Walton-in-Gordano.

Any help would be appreciated.

Thanks for your information. I think the Hach ancestor might well have been a Palentine person from Germany. They came over in 1709 to England.
Still looking for the connection to James and John and a Hack/Hach person.

A similar search on Ancestry (Hach in Somerset before 1750) gives many more, but I checked the first 5 and they were all misreadings!  But the wedding in 1554 given by FreeREG is indeed Hach, (although Ancestry have it as Lach). And it was in Nailsea, not far from the Gordanos, so the surname was certainly in the area well before 1709.

There are also other surnames in the same area and period which could be variations of Hack: Huck, Hake, Heake, perhaps even Hook.
