Susan GRIFFITH/George HEASLOP
« on: Friday 23 September 16 21:55 BST (UK) »
Hi
I'm not sure I am in the right County area but here goes.
I am searching for any info about Susan Griffith, her brother is Admiral Sir Edward Griffith (Colpoys).
Susan was born about 1773 she is supposedly married George Heaslop probably about 1792. I have no issue as yet. Her parents were Edward Griffith and Anne Colpoys. Susans grandfather may have been George Colpoys, High Sheriff of Clare 1644,
if the information I have collected is correct. Any help would be appreciated.

Cheers
Sandidel

Edward Griffiths and Ann Colpoys got a license to marry in 1764.

and George and Susanna got a license to marry in 1792

Finding out if she is Edwards daughter might be a lot more difficult.

Hi Sinann

Thank you for that info. I really want to find out now if Susanna and George Heaslop had any children and who they are.

Cheers

It's know they married in the Diocese of Cashel and Emly, but not which parish.
Also did they stay in the area after they married?

This is a list of COI parish records, if they survive and where they are
https://www.ireland.anglican.org/cmsfiles/pdf/AboutUs/library/registers/ParishRegistersTable.pdf
But without knowing where the couple married or where they set up home it may not be possible to find birth records even if they do survive.

I really don't know! My Great Great Aunt Emily Married Richard Levett Gardiner Heaslop in Australia in 1869, He died in New Zealand in 1873 quite young. He was christened in Richmond, Surrey, England in 1846. His Father is John Colpoys Heaslop born in Waterford Clonmel, Ireland this might be a good clue, John was married in Winchester.  England and died in London.

I am trying to find out if Susan Griffith and George Heaslop are John Colpoys Heaslop's parents.

Hope this helps.

Would I be right in thinking they were a military family, perhaps connected to the Barracks in Clonmel.
Might be worth trying the military birth registar on FindMyPast

Hi,
These are the records I found. There are not many records on line for County Clare.
I did see a George and Ann marriage earlier in Clare.

Name:   Georgius Colpoys
[George Colpoys]
Gender:   Male
Event Type:   Marriage
Marriage Date:   1828
Marriage Place:   Newmarket-on-Fergus, Clare, Ireland
Parish Variants:   Newmarket
Diocese:   Killaloe
Spouse:   Anndeth McNamara

Then this record.
Mr George Colpoys
in the Ireland, Tithe Applotment Books, 1823-1837
Name:   Mr George Colpoys
County:   Clare
Parish:   Kilmurry
Townland:   Knock
Year:   1825

In the Griffths Valuation site
There are Colpoys living in the area.

There was an Arthur Colpoys up to 1901, in Knock.

I did look for the marriage in Australia, a bit of a task, then I searched by Emily Bidgood and saw this......Did they drop the surname?
Name:   Emily Annie Bidgood
Spouse Name:   Richard Levett

Marriage Date:   05 Jul 1869
Marriage Place:   Queensland
Registration Place:   Queensland
Registration Year:   1869
Registration Number:   000478

This is the place to look for John's birth
http://registers.nli.ie/parishes/1102
watch your eyes!

I just spotted this, they must be related as he is from Knock.

William Colpoys
in the New York, Spanish-American War Military and Naval Service Records, 1898-1902
Name:   William Colpoys
Gender:   Male
Birth Date:   abt 1875
Birth Place:   Knock, Ireland
Enlistment Date:   14 Jun 1898
Enlistment Place:   Niagara Falls
Enlistment Age:   23
Military Branch or Type:   National Guard
Company:   E
Regiment:   3rd Infantry
Military Rank:   Private

As I said earlier Clare records a few.
I hope this has helped
Maggsie
