« on: Saturday 24 September 16 04:10 BST (UK) »
My grandmother (Oma Lee Rose b1900 Oklahoma ) she was a very young girl when she was taken from her mother by her father(Marion Deonlus Rose)  my question is what happened  to  Maybelle Gibson Rose, and who is her mother her father was Joseph S Gibson b1857 Texas  I have looked for what happened to her for years and found nothing on her it was said she went back to the  reservation and I was told Oma  had a identifying tattoo on her tongue from the reservation but there again what reservation would that have been in Oklahoma or in Texas, and I do not have anything on Maybelle,s Mother to know if she would have went to her  mothers Family

There is one entry for Marion Rose wife Maybelle on the WorldConnect site.  It says they were married 9 Nov 1897 in Indian Territory.  The marriage record may give names of parents.

A possibility for "your" Joseph Gibson?  Update:  Not your man; apologies

Oklahoma & Indian Territory Censuses & Rolls
Creek Census, 1882
Joseph Gibson, born c1857, age 25
Residence date:  13 April 1882
Residence Place:  Coweta Town
Native American Tribe:  Muskogee

A Leonard Gibson, age 33, is also shown on the image

Looking at results on the internet, Coweta (Tribal town) is now in the area of Alabama.  So, perhaps this is a different Joseph?

This could be the above Joseph (and therefore not your Joseph)
1900 Creek Nation, Indian Territory
Joseph Gibson, born May 1857, Alabama
and his wife and children:
 Jerusha E (mother of 6 children), William S, John E, Joseph A, James S, Silas B and Mary E.

Joseph S Gibsons mother Francis L Smithhart (as Francis L Bassette) made a claim against the Cherokee Nation on the 4 August 1896 that she and therefore her children and grandchildren were Cherokee Indians by blood.

Arthur Gibson in the U.S., Citizenship Case Files in Indian Territory, 1896-1897

Name:           Arthur Gibson
Case Name:   Francis L Bassett vs Cherokee Nation
Case Number:   60

Francis lists her children as:

Joseph Silas Gibson (39 years)
James LL Gibson      (37 years)
Mary Alice Gibson    (35 Years)
Clinton a Gibson      (32 years)
Martha Francis Gibson (30 years)
Margaret D Gibson      (27 years)
Forest E Gibson           (21 years)
Arthur B Gibson          (19 years)
Elmore leance Gibson          (15 years)

and in 1896 she names her grandchildren as:

May Belle Gibson
Mattie May Gibson
Eldridge Gibson
Beacher A Gibson
Ethel L Gibson
Gracie Wanetta Arendale
John M Arendale
Joe A Gibson

Unfortunately the wife of Joseph is not named.

The application is denied.

The application also shows that Francis husband Arthur Gibson died and she married a Thomas Bassette
