Help trace the unknown soldiers

Help trace the unknown soldiers -

Two portraits of unknown World War 1 soldiers have gone on display at Cumbria’s Museum of Military Life in Carlisle Castle as part of their ongoing Voices from the Somme Exhibition.

The portraits which were donated to the museum were bought in an antiques shop in Carlisle years ago. The portraits were hidden behind other prints.

All the museum know about the soldiers is that one is wearing the World War 1 Australian uniform and they are appealing for help in finding out who the men were and what connections they have with Cumbria if any.

Sandra, do you think it might be worth while putting this info on the Australia board if you haven't already?

I see that you have mentioned one of the men is wearing WW1 Australian uniform.

Someone from Australia might recognise him.

They look like photo enlargements that have been over-sketched.
The other man has a shoulder title number rather than a Regt.
