If you can find someone with the glass book of registration plates, they should be able to give a rough date of when that reg plate was issued.

It's either a BSA or a norton and probably late 1920s

CH was a derby registration plate if that helps

according to this site http://www.cvpg.co.uk/REG.pdf the CH code was used in Nottingham 1903-1930 and Derby until 1974

Brian

That location makes a lot of sense Mvann and Brian.

My Mum was from the Winshill/Burton-on-Trent area of Derbyshire/Staffordshire. It gives me a much better idea of where to start looking for these two people. I have often wondered if they were brother and sister.

Thank you for your help.

Trumpy 1924ish?

Jamjar

Very good find indeed Jamjar. I did think some of the Norton's you had posted previously looked similar but the 1924 Triumph looks like a much better fit. Too bad the way they are sitting covers up the back half of it.

Thank you  :)

Can you explain what the "glass book of registration plates" is Mvann? I'm also wondering how to go about looking for it.

Just shows what difference capital letters make?! ;D

It's Glass's Guide.

CH registrations were issued in Derby, between December 1903 and 1931.

Thanks for the help everyone  :)

I'm thinking this photo was sent to my Mum in the late 1920's / early 1930's by a childhood friend. For starters I'm guessing the girl - who looks in her mid to late teens is sitting on the bike with either her brother or her boyfriend.

I've got a few small school photos of Mum's childhood friends from Winshill. I'll start another thread to see if anyone thinks there are similarities.

I always use this website for old registration numbers:
http://www.oldclassiccar.co.uk/registrations/reg-letters.htm

It omits registrations after 1972, so it is very good for older registrations.
