Daisy Bank Station ... where was it?
« on: Sunday 25 September 16 20:44 BST (UK) »
Hi there,

I'm looking for Ash Street, Daisy Bank; I had an ancestor buried in 1885 in Coseley, Staffordshire, so presumably the death was within the parish.

Also, looking for the Daisy Bank Train Station on the Brettle Line which was PRESUMABLY close by?  Google shows that the station was later closed but I'm looking where it was actually situated and if Ash Street, Daisy Bank was close by or if the two names are merely coincidental.

Thank you.

That's fantastic. Thank you.  So it seems it was a station on the outskirts of Dudley?

This is really great. You have confirmed an ancestor of mine was involved in a rail crash in 1858.

Hi,

You can see the station on an old map.  The National Library of Scotland have a very good map site.  There's a facility to find places on old maps from new maps - called Side by Side. Follow this link http://maps.nls.uk/geo/explore/sidebyside.cfm#zoom=16&lat=52.5532&lon=-2.0754&layers=1&right=BingHyb

Place your standard mouse pointer on the modern satellite image on the corner of Hall Green / Ash Street and you can see a open + on the old map at the same location on the old map to the left.

The system can also be used for finding streets that have had their name changed.
