I agree. He was baptised in Jan 1815 so quite possibly born Nov or first week of Dec 1814. This would make age right for a Dec 13th 1846 burial, actual death being two or three days before.
Yarcombe isn't far from Upottery. He may have been living and working there at time of death, but family wanted  him buried at Upottery where his "home" was.

Still looking for a John on the 1841 Census. There's a John in Sidmouth, age 20, Mail Coachman, not with any family. Allowing for rounding down, year of birth in the range 1817-1821 - possibility?

Ages on these old records very often suspect.

yes i think that the john buried in 1846 is probably mine.
the only other john i can see is in churchstanton, taunton with a wife mary and daughter sarah.
im going to look this one up now.

i know the 1841 census can be the hardest as people were rounded up or down and it was took at harvest time i think so many rural people werent even 'at home'

the john at sidmouth seems to die 1843, birth year given as 1821. sidmouth.

i think my john is the one at taunton,
the wife mary is widowed by 1851, with a daughter caroline, and 2 others, back living in upottery.

the last child is illegitimate with only mum mentioned in baptism.
when mary remarries in 1852, her fathers occupation is given as blacksmith, this could be where john learnt his trade.

thanks for all your eliminating of the other johns.
it doesnt look to be a common surname so i may find they are all related somehow anyway, especially the ones living close by upottery .

The John EVELEIGH born John George Eveleigh to John Eveleigh and Elizabeth Fone in Chideock is the one transported to NSW in 1837. Not your John I'm afraid.  :'(
