I would think it more likely to be one of the local John Eveleighs than your one from Devon  :)

It's a nuisance that we can't find the Devon one in censuses to prove he wasn't transported.

I can see a John Everleigh in Ottery St Mary in the '41 and '51 Census - but this appears to be the John that married Elizabeth Clay, Dec 16th 1838, father Robert.

A John Eveleigh, age 32, was buried at Yarcombe** on Dec 13th 1846. Calculated Year of Birth would be 1814 - yet to find this John on the '41 Census.

** The burial register says Yarcombe but FindMyPast has transcribed as Upottery (the entry above reads Upottery)

There's a John (b.1788) and Elizabeth (b. 1791) Eveleigh (but no John b. about 1815) in Upottery on the '41 Census + Ann, Caroline and Harriott and 2 servants at Collymore Farm.
Where are your "John and Elizabeth" on the '41 Census?

Looking at the register. It looks like the register were burials at Upottery and his abode was Yarcombe. Either Yarcombe was too small to have own graveyard or he had more connection with Upottery

There's a Joseph Eveleigh, bap Ottery St Mary, 1 Jan 1817 - possible sibling for John, bap 1815 (father John, mother Elizabeth but occupation has "advanced" from labourer to yeoman)? There's also a possible daughter,Elizabeth, bap. 20 Nov 1818.

It looks as if he married Dinah Sumption (?) in 1838 and by the '51 Census they were living in Upottery..

Hi, Hanes that is my John and Elizabeth, in upottery in 1841 with daughters Harriet and Caroline.

John senior dies 1842 and Elizabeth nee Goldsworthy dies 1870.
Elizabeth is another mystery, she says born ottery st Mary  on all censuses but I can see a baptism in Devon at all only Cornwall

With the family linked to Upottery, the burial in 1846 of John, aged 32, at Upoterry  - abode Yarcombe - is a strong candidate for "your" John, baptised 1815?
