Another of the dew records which mention him is that he wass living in Brixton, London according to the 1937 electoral rolls with a Mary Elsie Martin - I have no idea of the relationship between the two - could be husband and wife (though no such marriage found), mother and son, etc.

Electoral Registers for Brixton c1937 are online but I can't see him or Mary, do you have an address  :-\

According to the certificate he was a bachelor - but does it simply mean he was then single? The witnesses are badly printed but it looks like two people caled Shaw, one with the initial D.

A couple of things I have been mulling over.

He married Eva in November 1939 but on the earlier Register they were living as Reginald and Eva Martin. I wonder why the change. Had a previous marriage ended,  needed to marry for his job, the threat of the war? And its known that the marriage ended within  a few years and he then lived with Patricia as his 'wife'.

He must be the Reginald Alec Martin on the 1937 electoral roll, living 19 Lilford Rd, Brixton with a Mary Elsie Martin. Its the only year they appear and the address seems to be flats or rented rooms/ As I have said, I have no idea of their relationship. Just wonder if its a temporary address after arriving in this country. Though no sign of a possible Reginald in the passenger lists. Have been unable to find any connection of a Mary Elsie with either a William Albert or Reginald Martin.

I am beginnning to think the answers lie overseas. Trouble is the lack of records for the various countries a gold company would work in.
Was he  a Catholic and could not divorce a previous wife?

I have  a horrible feeling this is another unsolvable, but I will be gratful for any thoughts.

Thanks
John

I still can't see the 1937 ER entry! Can someone give me a neighbour's (unusual) name or something?

Update: found it by just searching for Reginald Alec  :)

I searched Ancestry for the road name  ;D

Makes perfect sense - didn't (and still doesn't) work for me, but then I do find the search function for this particular dataset rather, er, quirky  :D

Anyway it appears from the 1937 electoral roll that Reginald and Mary Elsie may have been presenting as husband and wife - they both have a residence qualification (R and Rw respectively) but they also have O and Dw respectively, which are "occupation qualification" and "qualification through husband's occupation".
