Hi

I think it was a Sanatorium

According to Wiki, it was an infectious diseases hospital

Quote
Lochmaben Hospital was opened in 1905 as an infectious diseases hospital but, with the virtual demise of these diseases, it is now a modern 16 bed community facility caring for both physical and psychiatric problems.

Probably TB, etc.

Lochmaben hospital was mainly a TB hospital, certainly in 1940. If you look at your Auntie's death certificate it will tell you what she died of.
