Hmm,

BB, a flaw there then?

A location would have helped.

Another anomaly, I'm afraid:

The baptism of Florence Mellor to William and Margaret of Stanley, took place on 18 January 1889 at Endon.  William is a Plate Layer.  BUT the only registration in 1889 for a Florence Mellor was in September quarter 1889.

Alternatives:
Longnor - baptised 18 August 1889
Florence of John Philip (Labourer) and Elizabeth of Harper Hill

Longton - born 8 October and baptised 29 October 1890
Florence of Thomas (Packer) and Mary Ann of 135 Normacroft Road
Registration in December quarter 1890 in Stoke on Trent District p- mother's maiden name Robson
Marriage - Longton - 11 October 1885
Thomas Mellor - 29, widower, Potter.  Father:  Benjamin
Mary Ann Robson - 21, spinster, Potter.  Father:  Thomas

John William is father of Florence Mellor. I've been informed by family member my gran, Florence had a son, Harry, before marrying my grandad. Harry is recorded on census as grandson to John William.
Thanks all.

From this census information - John William's wife is Margaret.

Marriage at St Luke, Endon - 9 July 1888
William Mellor - 26, bachelor, plate layer.  Father:  Solomon, Labourer
Margaret Bowyer - 24, spinster.  Father:  Samuel, Labourer
Witnesses:  Edwin Bowyer and Margaret Mellor

Which ties in with the baptism of Florence on 18 January 1889 to William (Plate layer) and Margaret.

St Edward, Leek - 22 January 1861
Solomon Mellor - 22, bachelor, Labourer.  Father:  Solomon, Labourer
Elizabeth Finney - 25, spinster.  Father:  Thomas, Blacksmith

1871 census:  RG10/2885 folio 71, page 12
Heath Hillock, Fawfieldhead
Solomon Mellor - 74 - farmer
Margret - 70
Josiah - 32
William - 10 = grandson
Margret E - 2 - granddaughter
